Anishnabe Future Leaders
Camp Goal
To provide an opportunity for Native American youth to learn and practice culturally-based leaderships skills. Emphasis on practical information which can be put to use in the future leader's community.
Who Attends?
Native American youth from the 3 Fires: Ojibwa, Ottawa, & Potawatomi who are residents of Michigan, age 14 through 12th grade. Future Leaders Alumni are pre-approved to attend but must resubmit a renewal application.
Camp Setting
Clear Lake Education Center is a rustic deep-woods camp located on a beautiful lake in the Upper Peninsula. Separate boys and girls cabin areas are joined by common classrooms, messhall and outdoor learning areas.
Anishnabe Staff
Staff are role models, selected for their ability to "walk in two worlds" - to follow Traditional Anishnabe Teachings and to successfully work as craftsman, teaching, youth workers, tribal service providers, college instructors & tribal council members. Some have lifesaving, first aid, and CPR certificates.
