Reducing your energy usage at home can be easy and also save money!

Check out these easy tips that will save money AND energy, then try them at home:

1. Turn off your computer when it is not in use. Leaving a computer on continuously, even when it is in sleep mode wastes energy.

2. Use power strips for your home electronics. At night and when they are not in use, turn off the power strip to save energy.

3. In the summer, try using a clothes line to dry clothes instead of always using your dryer.

4. Never run your washing machine or dishwasher unless the load is completely full.

5. Turn off your dishwasher's drying cycle and try air drying your dishes.

6. Set your thermostat to comfortable temperatures that corresponds with the season. Try 68oF in the winter and 76oF in the summer.

7. Lower the thermostat on your water heater to 120oF.

8. To save water, take short showers instead of baths.

9. When driving your car, drive sensibly to save gas. Aggressive driving (rapid acceleration and braking) uses up more gas and is also dangerous.

10. When it is time to replace light bulbs or any home appliances, try to purchase products with the ENERGY STAR® label. These products meet specific and strict energy efficiency guidelines.

There are also a number of ways to save in the long term. More of those tips coming soon!
