Coal-fired Electric Generating Facilities

MDNRE is considering permitting the Holland Board of Public Works (Holland, MI) James De Young coal-fired power plant expansion.  See ITCMI comments on the Alternatives Analysis for HBPW. Also see the article "Holland to sue Michigan for right to expand James DeYoung Power Plant."

MDNRE has approved permitting modifications to the Detroit-Edison Monroe Power Plant Units 3 and 4 (Monroe, MI).  See EPA comments on the DTE permit and the Response to Comments Document released by MDNRE Air Quality Division.  Also see the article about DTE Monroe Unit 2: "DTE Energy Sued By Federal Government."

MDNRE has denied an air permit for the Wolverine Clean Energy Venture (Rogers City, MI).  See the article "Wolverine Files Appeal on Denial of Air Permit for Rogers City Plant."

Consumers Energy Karn-Weadock (Bay City, MI) has POSTPONED the permitted expansion.

 

Biomass Facilities

The comment period has closed and the MDNRE is deciding on the proposed air permit for Frontier Renewable Resources cellulosic ethanol plant (Kinross, MI).  See ITCMI comments on the permit to install.  The DOE is currently processing an Environmental Assessment for the project and accepting cultural resource information from Great Lakes Tribes.  See information about sugar maple, a hardwood species planned for use by Frontier, to be taken from the Northern Lower and the Upper Peninsulas of Michigan.

US DOE has released a Notice of Scoping document for American Process Incorporated proposed cellulosic ethanol facility (Alpena, MI). MDNRE is taking comments on the proposed air permit until September 1, 2010.
