Michigan Department Community Health Tobacco Control


Participating Tribes:
All federally recognized tribes and tribal urban health agencies in the state of Michigan are invited to be members of the Coalition

Objectives:
• Establish a statewide network center for culturally appropriate materials and resources specific to tobacco and health concerns for Native American Groups in Michigan.
• Support structure and activities of established tobacco control groups in Michigan. (Local and state tobacoo coalitions).
• Increase awareness of the dangers of secondhand smoke, tobacco use/abuse, and cessation among the tribal communiites in Michigan.
• Increase awareness of the concerns and need for tobaco prevention education and cessation within the tribal communiities among non-tribal health agencies and coalitions.
• Participate as a member of the Multi-Cultural Network.
• Provide training and education oppportunities for the tribes and tribal agencies.
• Provide tribal representation on local tobacco coalitions.
• Develop culturally appropriate and effective tobacco education and cesation materials in collaboration with M.D.C.H.
