Participating Tribes:

All tribes and tribal agencies in the state of Michigan are represented.

Objectives:

Establish a statewide network center for culturally appropriate materials and resources specific to tobacco and health concerns for Native American Groups in Michigan.

Support structure and activities of established tobacco control groups in Michigan. (Local and state tobacoo coalitions).

Increase awareness of the dangers of secondhand smoke, tobacco use/abuse, and cessation among the tribal communiites in Michigan.

Increase awareness of the concerns and need for tobaco prevention education and cessation within the tribal communiities among non-tribal health agencies and coalitions.

Participate as a member of the Multi-Cultural Network.

Provide training and education oppportunities for the tribes and tribal agencies.

Provide tribal representation on local tobacco coalitions.

Develop culturally appropriate and effective tobacco education and cesation materials in collaboration with M.D.C.H.
