Job Summary:

The Certified Water Operator (CWO) will support a statewide Tribal Drinking Water Technical Assistance and Training Program serving Michigan’s 12 federally recognized Tribes. This position will play a key role in strengthening Tribal drinking water system capacity, supporting regulatory compliance, and improving public health outcomes through training, technical assistance, and workforce development. Working closely with Tribal Utility Departments, EPA, and state partners, the Program Manager will help assess system capacity, identify training needs, and deliver hands-on support to water operators and utility staff. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to Tribal sovereignty, environmental protection, and long-term infrastructure resilience across Michigan. 

Job Specifications:

Minimum qualifications include current Certified Water Operator credentials (D2/S2/F2 or equivalent), experience operating or supporting public water systems, knowledge of Safe Drinking Water Act requirements, strong communication and training skills, and willingness to travel throughout Michigan. Preferred qualifications include experience working with Tribal communities or Tribal utilities, knowledge of asset management and emergency planning, experience delivering technical assistance or training, and familiarity with EPA Tribal drinking water programs. Preference given to qualified Native Americans

Salary: $59,188 – $63,939 annually dependent on education & experience
