Anishinaabek: The Original People of this Place is an exhibit collaboratively created with the Anishinabe people of Michigan.  Centered on the theme “We Are Still Here,” this redesign includes natural elements, connections to the Grand River, and opportunities to dig deeper into topics central to today’s Anishinaabe community.  Through written and spoken stories, art from local Anishinaabe artists, cutting-edge technology, and interactive experiences, visitors will discover the past, present, and future of Anishinaabek culture.

In celebration of the newly redesigned exhibit, the Grand Rapids Public Museum is hosting a Grand Opening PowWow.

This event is free to attend and open to the public.

Guests are asked to RSVP in advance to ensure thre is adequate capacity. Guests who RSVP by Monday, October 5, 2026 will be automatically entered into a raffle drawing for a prize at the event.  Must be present to win.

October 12 – Public Grand Opening: The exhibit will officially open to the public.  The GRPM Marketing team is working on a lineup of speakers and public officials for the 9:00 event.  This event is open to the public and will take place in the Museum Gallery.
